Zechariah sees Gabriel in the Holy of Holies. See what Gabriel says "Your Prayers have reached the LORD's presence and you will have a Son"How Zechariah reacts "Oh, we are too old to beget Children"Doesn't Zechariah know about the omnipotent LORD? He was a Priest who could go into Holy of Holies. He must have been trained and well read on the Pentateuch, the five books of Moses.
He must have read the books if Isaiah and known the great things LORD has done during the Judges period. He would have known how LORD leads his Prophets like Elijah and Elisha to do miraculous things. He must have known Abraham and Sarah begot Isacc in their ripe age and he is also a descendant of that promised clan! Yet how naive to tell such a thing.
Don't we do this in our lives? We Pray for something and when the LORD answers our Prayer, we say.…
Well, I cannot have this now, because I have so and so.…
Example in my Life…
Long ago, I Prayed for a Car. LORD said, I will grant your wish to buy a Car.
However I did not have a parking in my place I was residing. So I said, I first need a residence where I can park a Car, LORD. Instead please give me a 2 Wheeler, which I could manage parking in my present residence.
After this instance, it took almost 14 years for me to get the car. During this period, I got married, God was gracious in his Providence that started leading a comfortable life and also we lived in residences for the last 3 years out of the 14 years waiting, in which had designated covered car parking, where we were just parking our two wheeler!
Had I believed that LORD who provides the Car, will also provide the place to park, I would have got the car the same time I was granted the wish. In Zachariah's case, he was dumb till the time he begot a Son and only on the 8th day of John the Baptist's birth his tongue was untied.
Another instance where the reaction was Similar but deemed to be different.
Mary's obedience
After meeting Zachariah we see Gabriel meets Mary, to whom he declares about the birth of Y'shua the Messiah, our saviour.
Now who was this Mary? A normal citizen living in the outskirts of Judea, in an area called Galilee. Galilee was supposed to be the downtrodden area, hence the saying came "will a Prophet raise from Galilee?"
See how Mary reacts
"I don't know a Man!" Says Mary…
Isn't this doubting? If in Zachariah's case he doubted, why not declare Mary also doubted! See the difference. Mary was just engaged to Joseph and not yet married.
However Zechariah and Elizabeth were married and had lived together long. They had prayed fervently for a Child.
So Mary's was a statement which is of earthly knowledge she had, that she needs to have a relationship with a Man to beget a Son.
For this what Gabriel replies is one the profound statements in Bible, "With God Nothing is Impossible"
Wow!... He did not declare Mary as a doubting person. Instead he assures Mary that God is Omnipotent. See the acceptance of Mary where he says, I am Slave of the LORD, and let His will be done.
Acceptance of the LORDs word, from a simple unmarried virgin, from the ghettos of Galilee. See how Elizabeth was filled in Holy spirit and greets "Oh who am I that my Lord's mother has come to see me!"
This is the difference. You may ask LORD to explain the situation. However you MUST not have doubt. See what Jesus says, Faith as small as mustard seed shall move Mountains.
Disbelieving is Human tendency. Beat that disbelief and believe in the LORD, who is omnipotent.
Now do we understand the difference between rebellion, doubt and clarification?
May the LORD lead you in the TRUTH
