In Matthew 4 we see Jesus went around the Judea and Galillee and healed multitudes of all types of sickness.
In Greek, the went around is depicted by word called periēgen, which is derived from two words Peri and Peri means around (word meaning Circumference Perimeter is derived from this word "Peri") , ago means to walk.
Also when Jesus sent his 12 disciples and 72 disciples, he sent them by foot.
We see that Jesus had gone around Judea and Galillee, probably all by walking, with an exception of the famous Hosanna entry.
Such was the humility the King of Kings and LORD of LORDS had lived. We see that he had often trekked upon the hills and wandered through the deserts, probably all by foot. In couple of instances he walked even on water to go from one shore to another!
There had been much better modes of transport in his days, with Roman empire ruling over Jerusalem, Horses ponies were not too much of Luxury. The creator of this universe could have ordered for a better mode of transport for himself. However he chose to walk and also send his dsciples by walk.
How many times have we denied to travel, just because we did not have a comfortable mode of travel? How many times have we humbled ourselves to travel through train in a third class compartment, as the LORD has asked us to go to a specific place. How many times have we fought with the Holy Spirit just because he asked us to walk down a road on a dark night or a rainy day?
Understand that there is a specific need LORD has, when he asks you to walk. I will share one of the witness Lord had brought to my notice through a book. I don't remember the book name, but it was one of the self help series by Robert Schuller or Norman Vincent Peale. (I don't remember the author even!)
There was a man who had gone into depression and got himself addicted to Alcohol. With Alcoholism not solving his problems, but infact worsening his problem, one night he decided to booze high then go to his residence to kill himself, with a revolver.
He started walking to his residence and it started to rain. He was very angry and got drenched in the rain, still walked towards his residence. He reached the lane where his residence was located. In the lane, while it was still raining, under a lamp post he saw a man who smiled at him.
Giving a stare in reply he walked past the lamp post and he heard the man standing under the lamp post say, "Jesus Loves you My friend."
He was shocked to hear those words from this man, who was waiting for this drunkard to come and pass by the lamp post. This drunkard started to weep loudly and returned to the LORD. This man who stood under the lamp post was a local Pastor and LORD had commissioned him to leave his supper halfway through, to walk down to this lane and share the Love of Jesus.
Now, put yourself in that Pastor's place. Would you have left your supper half way to go to the lane on a night and continue to stand under the lamp post when it started raining, fully drenched, just to meet this drunkard? Possibly that Pastor was married. What would he have told his wife, while leaving the supper halfway?
Remember, Jesus' Parable of leaving the 99 sheep in the field and going in search of the lost one. This Pastor had that 99 in his Church. But the LORD commissioned him to go and wait under a lamp post, even if he became fully drenched, to save that lost sheep.
I am not saying you need to travel by foot everywhere. I am not saying leave your supper half way and go to a lamp post and evangelize drunkards.
If LORD says, obey. No excuses. No demanding for better amenities. No fighting with the LORD for worldly things. Just OBEY.
If he wants you to travel by a 2nd class unreserved train journey, believe in him and travel. His ways are amazing. He may bring someone to you to share Gospel. He may ask you to intercede for a specific person in your prayer. Or just that your presence will make the travellers in that compartment safe, because the LORD makes you to travel safe. Whatever be the reason, sometimes you may not know that reason, we need to OBEY.
See what Peter says in 1 Peter 4
1 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.
2 As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.
Obeying to the Will of God, Living for accomplishing the Will of GOD is your primary calling.
You have been called and the one who called you is faithful.
God bless you.
