Forgiving is Divine is a old saying,
What is forgiving? Why do we need to forgive? What makes us to hold grudge? Bitterness?
These are questions that will come to one's mind when we think about forgiving.
Any act that is against our liking, done by anyone whom we have trusted or loved, creates negativity in us and when the trust is broken, we feel bitter. Some of us hold grudge against them and also human tendency is to do Tit for Tat. We retaliate with a similar or much worse act, which creates negativity in the other person.
This tendency is taught to us in each religion, such as "What you sow, you reap", "Eye for Eye", "Evil deeds will lead you to rebirth" etc.,
Why forgive?
Simple answer is, Forgive for your own good. Because the bitterness in you creates a negative energy in you, which in turn makes you a person with negative outlook. Few people fall sick due to the overwhelming of negativity.
Should christians Forgive?
See what Jesus says in his Mount sermon. "If you don't forgive the transgressions of your brother. the Father in heaven will not forgive yours"
So it is very important that we forgive the transgressions of our brethern.
How to Forgive?
One of the methods which I follow is to sit in the LORDs presence and by faith I take an eraser in my hand and allow the Holy Spirit to erase whatever negativity I have.
Another method is to ask Holy Spirit's intervention to erase the unwanted memories
The best way I have ever practised is to see the person, just as Jesus would see. Put yourself in Jesus shoes and how would he have forgiven... Hasn't he forgiven all our sins?
There are other umpteen methods. For sure LORD will intervene with you to give you the best way to Forgive.
Forgiving transgressions is what the LORD preached for. His Only commandment is to Love one another.
Let's forgive. That's the first step to reestablish God's kind of Love.
