Prayer has enormous potential. We have many saints in the Bible, who have prayed and made great things.
Possibly this is why in our present era, before ministering the word of God in church services, there are Praises and Prayer, during which people would pray and then the word of God is ministered.
In these cases Prayer does
1. Enable the people to receive the word of God
2. Enable the minister to minister the word of God
3. Reveal the minister on what needs to be ministered (in some of the cases)
4. Make people to realise their shortcomings
2. Enable the minister to minister the word of God
3. Reveal the minister on what needs to be ministered (in some of the cases)
4. Make people to realise their shortcomings
We saw in the previous article that Prayer has to be a Dialogue and not a Monologue. So prayer essentially creates two way communication, in words or otherwise
Our Lord Jesus, during His ministry says, donot pray long prayers, to justify to the others that you are Praying. Go into your room, lock yourself in the room and Pray.
He continues to say, then the LORD who sees your inner heart shall give you the reward.
Personal Prayer with the LORD is what Jesus was mentioning here. In Jesus's life we have seen very few instances where he has prayed publicly. One of my most favorite instances is the prayer in front of Lazurus' sepulchure. Here also see what he says.
(John 11:41-42) ESV
41...And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.”
See the reward. A dead man, who was dead for four days, Jesus raised from the dead. That's not the only reward.
"Many of the Jews therefore, who had come with Mary and had seen what he did, believed in him" (John 11:45) ESV
After this in Chapter 12 we see many people living in Bethany and its neighbourhood had come to see Jesus and the raised Lazurus. See how the Gospel was spread. And all these things happened just before his crucifixtion.
Our Dialogue with the LORD in public, will that evoke a same response? It has to. Jesus himself had said, ""you will do greater things than me! ""
The greek word for the English "greater" is Meizona, which is first used in John 5:20
See that very conversation
When we read John 5:19- 30 (NIV)
19Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he see's his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. 21For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.
Note the 19th verse where he says, "he can do only what he see's his Father doing"
So for Jesus, during his personal prayer, he has seen Father raising Lazurus from dead. Isn't LORD, the one who foretells? Here we see that he shows what he does! Hallelujah
